November 2011
Eleven Morgans met up at Abergavenny bus station car park on the 4th September for Stuart & Jackie’s “Burger, Bap & Beer, with a couple of vineyards thrown in for good measure” run. The weather was good, although the forecast wasn’t.
Humphrey & Caroline had driven all the way from Rhossili to show us their lovely Anniversary +8 and to demonstrate how clean & shiny a Morgan can be.
The first section of the run was very short and took us to the Sugarloaf vineyard for tea/coffee and wine-tasting.
We then headed off along some beautiful and very quiet roads to the second, and larger of the two vineyards on the itinerary. A group of us took the conducted tour while others sat enjoying the scenery or simply quaffing wine. Most people enjoyed the tasting afterwards.
By now the skies had darkened considerably and Nick & Elizabeth had the good sense to put the hood up before we left for the BBQ at Stuart & Jackie’s. A few spots of rain on the screen caused Keith to pull off the road to put his hood up while the rest of us carried on into a deluge. Amusing for other road users.
The BBQ had to be indoors but was enjoyed by us all and we wish to thank Stuart & Jackie for organising the day and for their great hospitality.
Tredegar Park was down on TaffMog numbers due to the inclement weather, holidays, etc but we erected the gazebo before the worst showers and kept dry. Although fifteen of us in there together requires that we are all friends! Visitor numbers were reasonable, but not as good as a sunny year, which is a pity as the money collected all goes to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Attendees at the Usk noggin were ten plus a welcome appearance of Dave & Jackie Jones, in between holidays, with Jackie now back to good health.
St Mary’s noggin was well attended and enjoyed by all but nothing of great moment occurred, except that Denis, after years of waiting, won the raffle prize of a box of chocolates, which we all helped him scoff.
The Halfway Inn noggin had fifteen attendees in eight Morgans which made a nice line up in our reserved space at the front. As usual we had superb food supplied by Simon and Natalie whose son, Oscar, 11 weeks old, is now a regular attendee and seemed to enjoy the attention.
We have started a new tradition of exchanging surplus fruit at each noggin. I am sure the supermarkets will get it banned once they hear about it as the fruit will inevitably fall foul of some Brussels law.
Dave and Kay organised their run on the Prescott day so eight car loads met at their house for really excellent bacon sandwiches and coffee. Thank you both for setting us up to tackle the vagaries of the English weather. We did the scenic route to Prescott with Dave and Kay foregoing the luxury of the Roadster and taking the other one with no hood and windscreen. Fate was tempted to breaking point and the Heaven’s opened. The other two who started open went closed very rapidly while Dave and Kay waited patiently in the rain. Remarks such as “put your wipers on then” went down very well. Those who did get to Prescott all reported a very successful and enjoyable day, once the deluge was over.
