July 2011
The Hon Sec, having deserted his posted for a decadent tour of Europe in his Roadster, deputed the Hon Treasurer to send in TaffMog’s report for the July issue.
First event in May was the Pencoed Classic Car Show. The Hon Sec demonstrated his planning skills by arriving just as we had finished erecting the gazebo, with the excuse that the road was flooded to six inches. His feet were dry and as he was in his Morgan you can draw your own conclusions. Thank you Peter and Dave for the help with the gazebo. Jan gets the prize for the earliest start as Emyr had sent her off at 3-30am to do a recce before collecting him when the coast was clear. Presumably he had a lie-in. We had a good turnout with fourteen Morgans, together with the guest appearance of Dylan (Emyr junior) in his Vauxhall VX220. The weather forecast was surprisingly accurate and we had a couple of downpours, which didn’t dampen the spirits, but did keep the visitor numbers down. A pity as an enormous amount of effort goes into the show, and all of the proceeds go to charity. Afterwards we were invited back to Dave & Linda’s for refreshments and a pleasant evening. Thank you both.
Next up was TaffNog@Twmpath attended by 26 members. Jean produced cottage pie, more like a stately home pie really, which was devoured along with the excellent sweets she created. A most enjoyable evening.
The Wicked Welsh Weekend completed the month. 47 Morgans turned up to the Metroplole in Llandrindod Wells for the long weekend. Leslie and Paul made admirable arrangements with 10 runs to choose from, plus a trip to the fine house of Abbey-cwm-hir, which was visited by 12 Morgans, plus human contents. The dinner and disco on the Saturday evening was attended by 95 of us. Overall the hotel did a first class job. AngleMog provided the largest contingent and we welcomed two cars from the Netherlands. And a first for the WWW, David and Christine Grundy spent their honeymoon with us. Congratulations to them both. Thank you Leslie and Paul for making a super weekend for us, although it was suggested that Paul’s main contribution was marrying Leslie in the first place.
