August 2011
The gymkhana, scheduled for 5th
June had to be cancelled due to lack of interest or enthusiasm (or ability of
an ageing membership!).
However, a select group attended the noggin at St. Mary’s
golf club on the 9th – what else would you expect? There was food
involved.
A truly dedicated and hardy group met up with Neil &
Helen at the Honey Café, Bronllys on a thoroughly miserable morning on the 12th
for a run through glorious countryside to Lake Vyrnwy for lunch. It was hoods
up and wipers on max for the whole day. Did someone say that Humphrey &
Caroline got lost, TWICE? Of course, they were found again so all was well in
the end. They weren’t the only ones, apparently, but despite this and the dreadful
weather, a good day was had by all. Many thanks, Neil & Helen, for
organising the day.
TaffMog cannot endure a noggin without food, so the Con Club
was empty on our usual evening. Instead, we met up at the Olway Inn, Usk for a
pleasant evening, despite the fact that the pub ran out of beer before the end
of the evening. Immigration must have been napping because they’d let Robin
back into the country.
The night of the Nantgaredig noggin was very wet &
miserable, resulting in just the one Morgan in the car park – Simon’s Aero.
Saved him a bottle of wine! The weather didn’t stop a good crowd from turning
up in their tin tops to enjoy a good meal and convivial banter until the early
hours. Emyr had been fishing earlier in the day and he must have found a shoal
of mackerel as we were all treated to a goody bag of fresh mackerel – delicious
and healthy to boot. At our age, we have to keep our brains well supplied with
fish oils, don’t we?
In contrast to Neil & Helen’s run earlier in the month
which was one of the wettest days of the year, Dave & Jean’s longest day
run was one of the hottest. Seven Mogs met at Magor services, with Humphrey
& Caroline providing us with a bag of freshly picked mushrooms; again,
another delicious meal followed when we got home. We were pleased to be joined
by Howard in his newly renovated Plus 8. We hope he enjoyed the day and look
forward to his joining us on more runs in the future. It was also good to see
Rod & Vicky, since Rod was home on leave from his ship.
We set off over the old Severn crossing and were soon
enjoying the delights of the Cotswolds. Keith & Brenda joined us on route
to our coffee stop at Egypt Mill. Just as on Dave & Jean’s run last year, a
diversion caused us to have to reroute, and guess who got lost this time? (No,
not Humphrey & Caroline, and Peter & Carol weren’t with us either). Luckily,
we were soon back on track and enjoying some beautiful Cotswold villages.
A good lunch just outside Burford and afternoon tea at
Cleeve Hill Golf Club completed a lovely day out. Again, our thanks go to Dave
& Jean for the day.
For a variety of reasons a much-depleted contingent of
TaffMoggers travelled to Newmarket at the end of the month. However, we are
grateful to AngleMog for all their hard work in organising the event.
